Social Media Volunteer

Rescue the Underdog is a San Francisco–based, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on saving dogs from high-kill shelters across California. The organization specializes in helping overlooked dogs, including seniors, shy dogs, and those with medical or behavioral needs. Through foster care, veterinary treatment, and compassionate support, Rescue the Underdog helps dogs heal, build confidence, and prepare for adoption. The team is driven by a belief in second chances, redemption, and the unique value of every underdog.

Volunteers and supporters play a vital role in connecting these dogs with safe, loving forever homes.

We have several social media volunteer roles we are hoping to fill:

Social Media Content Creators

Responsibilities

• Create Instagram Reels/TikTok Videos
• Develop photo carousels and Story content
• Repurpose photos and videos into engaging social media content
• Assist with adoption, foster recruitment, fundraising, and educational campaigns
• Create graphics in Canva using templates

Ideal Skills

• Experience with Canva required
• Familiarity with Instagram and TikTok trends
• Creative storytelling abilities

Commitment

• Approximately 2-4 hours per week
• Create 1-3 pieces of content weekly

Community Engagement Volunteer

Responsibilities

• Respond to comments on social media posts
• Engage with followers and supporters
• Interact with local rescue, shelter, and pet-related accounts
• Help increase visibility through meaningful engagement
• Answer basic questions and direct followers to appropriate resources

Ideal Skills

• Strong written communication skills
• Friendly and professional online presence
• Passion for animal welfare

Commitment

• Small time commitment - approximately 30 minutes per week
• Flexible schedule

Content/Copy & Storytelling Volunteer

Responsibilities

• Collect updates from fosters and adopters
• Write dog biographies and website profiles
• Draft adoption update posts
• Assist with blog content and newsletters
• Help identify compelling stories that showcase the personalities of RTU dogs

Ideal Skills

• Strong writing skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to capture Rescue the Underdog's voice and tone

Commitment

• Approximately 2–3 hours per week
